Easycart or Lemon Squeezy: Which one is better for you?
Easycart and Lemon Squeezy enable businesses and digital creators to sell their products online. They both come loaded with tools for handling payments, invoices, taxes, marketing, product management, and integrations. But here's the catch - Lemon Squeezy is a perfect fit for software companies but might leave creators in other fields or those with a smaller audience wanting more. On the flip side, Easycart has got everyone covered, offering comprehensive tools to run an online business, no matter the size or industry.
What’s the squeeze with Lemon Squeezy?
Lemon Squeezy, as a Merchant of Record, handles legal and tax aspects of your sales. But, they represent many businesses, leading to high turnovers and exceeding nexus thresholds.
Here’s the catch: Lemon Squeezy buys your products and resells them, making your customers their clients. This leads to two issues. First, as a Merchant of Record, they surpass tax thresholds in every jurisdiction, which may cause your customers to pay more in taxes (up to 11.5%, up to 25% in EU and globally). Second, if Lemon Squeezy hits a snag, you could lose customers, money, and your ability to sell. Third issue is actually building value in your own company, with your own customers. With MoR this can be a serious issue for potential investors or buyers.
They also throw a wrench in the works when it comes to payouts. You can only withdraw your funds twice a month, and you’re on the hook for potential currency exchange costs, as payouts are only available in USD. Plus, you’re required to fill in forms like W-8 and W-9, even if selling from outside the US (despite them handling tax, you’re still left with the paperwork).
Lemon Squeezy could also be clearer about their additional fees, which are only detailed further in the fine print. But that’s a topic for another paragraph.
A closer look at commission fees
We already mentioned that while both Easycart and Lemon Squeezy offer reasonable commission fees, the latter may turn out to be much more expensive when you are selling outside the US, offering subscriptions, or using affiliates.
Easycart operates on a sliding commission scale based on your earnings: the more you make, the less you pay. Our commission ranges from 0.95% to 2.95%. In contrast, Lemon Squeezy charges a fixed 5% + 50¢ per transaction, with an added 1.5% for international transactions (outside the USA) and a 0.5% fee for subscription payments. But, to not just talk the talk, let's dive into the details using an example.
Example
A customer from Germany wants to buy a $30 monthly subscription to your product using their card.
- Lemon Squeezy: the total price including 19% VAT is $35.70. The platform fee, international transaction fee, and subscription fee apply, yielding a net profit of $27.01.
- Easycart: the total price is the same, but the net profit ranges from $28.16 (with the highest 2.95% commission) to $28.87 (with the lowest 0.95% commission).
So the difference between the two platforms ranges from $1.15 to $1.86. And it will grow with product charge, reaching even higher - e.g. for monthly subscription sales of $3000 it could be even $186. Conclusion? The more you sell, the larger the commission gap between Easycart and Lemon Squeezy.
But there's still more. Lemon Squeezy adds a 3% fee for orders referred by a partner and a 2% fee to your partners, collected at withdrawal. They also charge a commission on seller's withdrawals, ranging from 0.5% to 3%, and may add a $0.50 or $2.50 fee. All those additional charges can push Lemon Squeezy’s commission into double digits.

You can also link your Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, add a newsletter consent option, and include mandatory or optional checkboxes, like marketing consent. In the product panel, you can add fields for phone numbers or addresses and custom fields for customers to fill out. Talk about making life easy and boosting conversion!
Lemon Squeezy
At first look, Lemon Squuezy seems to have some cool features. But dig a little deeper and you'll find you don't have full control over the checkout page's appearance. In the seller panel, you can pick from six themes and adjust the color scheme. But Lemon Squeezy doesn't let you add your own checkboxes or custom fields from the dashboard, nor can you add your own Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. These can only be added in your product description.
While you can tweak elements around the checkout with CSS, Lemon Squeezy gives you fewer options for customizing the shopping experience to match your brand.
Lemon Squeezy also misses out on 1-click payments. Filling the cart with the same data over and over is a drag and can put customers off making another purchase, reducing your conversion.
Prices and promotion management
We all know that price can sway a customer's decision to buy. So, having flexible pricing and deal management that fits with your business strategy is a must.

Limited-time offers are a proven way to increase sales as they create a sense of urgency and encourage customers to act fast. With Easycart, you can set a countdown timer for the whole product, or even for individual variants. The "old price" function lets you highlight savings by showing the old, crossed-out price next to the new, lower price.
Our dynamic pricing feature lets you sell the same product at different prices. Just send your customer a link with the price you choose. For example, instead of $39, you set the price at $45. Your customer will only see the higher price, and you won't have to duplicate your product to sell it at different prices.
Lemon Squeezy
Lemon Squeezy doesn't offer a countdown timer for deals or the feature of showing the old crossed-out price next to the new, lower price. This could be a big drawback, as customers won't see their potential savings and may be less likely to buy.
However, like Easycart, Lemon Squeezy lets you set a percentage discount or a fixed amount. You can also set a start and expiration date for the discount, limit its use, and enable a monthly subscription discount.
